Scar cover-up questions

When is my scar ready for a tattoo?

Usually once it has fully healed: flat or only slightly raised, no longer red and no longer tender to the touch. For many scars that takes around a year, sometimes longer.

We’ll look at your scar and tell you honestly whether now is the right time or whether it’s worth waiting. For fresh, raised or growing scars, such as keloids, please check with a doctor first.

Which scars can be tattooed over?

Many: surgery and C-section scars, accident and burn scars, self-harm scars, and stretch marks too. What matters is that the scar has healed. Whether and how it works for yours, we’ll tell you once we’ve seen a photo.

Do I have to explain where my scar comes from?

No. Share as much or as little as you like. For the design, what matters is the placement, the size and how the skin feels, not the story behind it.

Will the scar be invisible afterwards?

A tattoo can cover a scar very well or work it into the design. The texture of the skin stays, though, and may show in certain light. We’ll tell you beforehand what’s realistic.

Does it hurt more than a regular tattoo?

It varies. Scar tissue can be more sensitive, while some areas feel almost numb. We work at your pace, and breaks are always fine.

Does ink hold in scar tissue?

Scar tissue often takes ink differently from untouched skin. That’s why we choose the design and technique to suit your scar, and plan a second session for touch-ups if needed.

How much does a scar cover-up cost?

It depends on the size, the design and the work involved. In the free consultation you’ll get an honest price range.

Who sees my photos?

Your photos stay with us. We only show before-and-after pictures with your explicit consent.
